Hacer una revisión sobre lo que son y han sido los procesos de inventario para el conocimiento del patrimonio cultural de una nación es una tarea difícil por los aspectos que ella en si misma implica. No obstante, y en vista de las circunstancias, ha tocado analizar una serie de documentos resultados de la labor de registro del patrimonio cultural. Tarea ésta que ha permitido, entre otras cosas, establecer o más bien reconocer las diferentes formas de trabajo que pueden implementarse en distintas naciones que persiguen un mismo fin: conocer lo que se tiene. Actualmente, la mayoría de los países, ante la necesidad de conocer, valorar y conservar los restos del pasado que conforman el Patrimonio Cultural han establecido un sin fin de reglamentos, convenios y demás normativas que estimulan y, en muchos casos obligan, la realización de proyectos de inventario que vayan en pro del conocimiento del legado patrimonial con que cuenta cada localidad. En el Cantón San Miguel los casos de destrucción, falta de cuidado, mantenimiento y difusión no pueden dejarse de mencionar. ¿Cómo entender, por ejemplo, que por falta de conciencia patrimonial se destruyeron alguna vez, La antigua Planta de Agua, el Parque Centenario, que son bienes públicos destruidos por descuido de las autoridades competentes, no se diga las diferentes casas con más de 100 años de construcción de la zona urbana del Cantón, que sus propietarios motivados por mejorar su estilo de vida, higiene y salud, ya que sus propiedades no son en su mayoría aptos para habitar en dichos
