The cervix cancer is the second cause of death among women around the World. 61 There are several factors that contribute to the development of this type of cancer; factors such as the HPV (human papillomavirus virus) which is a carcinogenic agent and the sexual behavior as well. 17 This is a descriptive-retrospective study, meant to be a cross-section looking for the prevalence of the exposition (risk factors associated for the infection by HPV) and the effect (histo and citologic alterations) in a 149-randomized sample. This was representative to the whole universe with diagnostics of invading squamouse carcinoma, in situ carcinoma and severe displasia NIC III in SOLCA – Hospital, Núcleo de Quito during 2007. We found that the incidence of cervix cancer was each time higher among younger women, beginning with cervical displasias that rapidly become cancer.
El cáncer del cuello uterino constituye la segunda causa de muerte en mujeres a nivel mundial.61 Existen algunos factores que contribuyen al desarrollo de éste tipo de cáncer como el VPH (virus del papiloma humano), el cual es un agente carcinogénico así como también el comportamiento sexual.17, 20 El presente estudio tipo descriptivo, retrospectivo y de corte transversal pretendió medir la prevalencia de la exposición (factores de riesgo asociados con la infección por VPH) y el efecto (alteraciones histo-citológicas) en una muestra aleatoria de 149 pacientes, representativa al universo con diagnóstico histopatológico de carcinoma escamoso invasor, in situ y displasia severa NIC III en el Hospital de SOLCA –Núcleo de Quito durante el año 2007. Se encontró que la evolución del cáncer del cuello uterino es cada vez a menor edad, con alteraciones cervicales displásicas que avanzan con rapidez hacia el cáncer.
