Description

The project was developed from an analysis of distinct “terrain vagues” in the city of Quito, which had great potential to function as urban connectors. As point of approach, the area of the González Suárez, North of Quito is taken. Due to its interesting geographical location and its urban and social characteristics marked through a collective memory of historical significance, this area becomes fully suitable for new approaches in terms of land use and program flexibility that supplies a wide variety of users. Therefore, it appears the intention to introduce a hybrid building that motivates and strengthens the relationship between the urban community and city infrastructure. The land that nowadays is Hotel´s Quito parking lot is chosen to develop the project; An area of 7,100 m2 between González Suárez Avenue, 12 de Octubre Avenue and La Floresta. As a starting point, the project focuses on various interconnects networks of users and their activities in order to understand the dynamics of the area. This way, we manage to define features that will be predominant within the hybrid building implanted in the study area, with the intention to respond appropriately to the needs of different users.
El proyecto se desarrolla a partir de un análisis de terrenos vacantes en distintitos sectores de la ciudad de Quito, los cuales contaban con el potencial de funcionar como conectores urbanos. Como punto de enfoque, se toma al sector de la González Suárez al Norte de Quito. Debido a su ubicación geográfica tan interesante, al igual que sus características urbanas y sociales marcadas por una memoria colectiva de trascendencia histórica, el sector se torna completamente adecuado para nuevos planteamientos en cuanto a uso de suelo y flexibilidad programática que abastezca una gran variedad de usuarios. Por lo cual surge la intención de implantar un edificio híbrido que motive y fortalezca la relación entre la comunidad urbana y la infraestructura de la ciudad. Se toma el terreno que hoy en día es el parqueadero del Hotel Quito, un terreno esquinero de 7,100 m2 entre la González Suárez, la Av. 12 de octubre y la Floresta. Como punto de partida, el proyecto se enfoca en distintas redes interconectadas de usuarios vs. Actividades para lograr entender la dinámica del sector. De esta manera, se logra definir características que serán predominantes dentro del edifico hibrido implantado en área de estudio, con la intención de responder de la manera más adecuada a las necesidades de los distintos usuarios.
