The Project proposes a revamp of the underutilized facilities of the Coliseo Rumiñahui, in order to solve the desarticulation issue in La Floresta neighborhood outskirts residential areas. This phenomenon is due to big projects such as Hotel Quito and the universities area, wich break the urban layout and, because they close their doors to the city, became urban barriers that fragmented the neighborhood. This proposal is part of a master plan and its interventions surge from the need of adding value to the area. These interventions are focused on the limit that separates la Floresta from la Vicentina and el Dorado, this point is an axis that connects the nodes of la Casa de la Cultura, plaza Brasilia and la Floresta park. In this area there are several urban infrastructures that add a lot of value to the city but that are also part of these urban barriers. The objective is to point out the potential of recycling this type of facilities and transform the projects in order to accomplish a better integration with the area.
El proyecto propone una renovación de las instalaciones subutilizadas del Coliseo Rumiñahui, para solucionar los problemas de desarticulación de las áreas residenciales de la periferia del barrio la Floresta. Este fenómeno es causado por proyectos enormes como el Hotel Quito y el sector de las universidades, que rompen con la trama urbana y que al cerrarse a la ciudad se han convertido en barreras urbanas que han fragmentado el barrio. Esta propuesta es parte de un plan maestro, cuyas intervenciones surgen de la necesidad de revalorizar el sector. Dichas intervenciones se concentran en el límite que divide la Floresta de la Vicentina y el Dorado, eje que conecta los nodos de la Casa de la Cultura, plaza Brasilia y el parque de la Floresta, y en el cual se concentran varias infraestructuras urbanas de mucho valor para la ciudad pero que forman parte de estas barreras urbanas. El objetivo es demostrar el potencial que tiene el reciclaje de este tipo de infraestructuras para transformar los proyectos en el foco de una mejor integración con el lugar.
