Description

The place of intervention is revealed after the analysis of Silo as an architectural ideal type. Based on the formal–historical study of the element and giving it a considerable importance for its essence, the project ends up becoming an intervention in Industrial heritage on Chimbacalle, Quito. As this place represented an important part of the city industrial development, nowadays we can see this structures in the area, some of them have kept on working and some of them are abandoned or have acquired a new activity and being reformed. Undoubtedly Quito has been growing through the years, places has been transforming, and laws define the maximum period of time in which industry will continue working where they are now, until they have to move to another part of the city. Taking this in consideration the project will focus on the opportunity of changing these spaces, having as an example actual interventions that have been developed under the same interests, linking up Memory, Industry, Landscape and Territory. The Project will try to conform part of a net on interventions that will take advantage of this significant structures, not only for architecture but also for the memory. And trough it we will try to contribute to the needs of those who live there and the needs of the city. The study will center its analysis in “Molinos Royal”, which encloses the studied theory and represents a milestone in this place. Void as promise of new things in the unoccupied space will be the way of getting close to the solution, the project will act in different scales.
El lugar de intervención se revela tras el análisis del Silo como Tipo Arquitectónico ideal. En base al estudio histórico-formal del elemento y teniendo en cuenta la importancia del mismo por su carácter esencial, se resuelve proponiendo un proyecto de intervención en Patrimonio Industrial en el sector de Chimbacalle en la Ciudad de Quito. Siendo uno de los sectores ejemplares de lo que representó el desarrollo industrial en la ciudad, Chimbacalle hoy en día nos demuestra como de a poco éste espacio se ha dio transformando, y debido al crecimiento de la ciudad y al cambio de uso dentro de la misma, han quedado inmersas una serie de estructuras industriales, algunas en funcionamiento y otras en desocupación. Teniendo en cuenta que con la nueva normativa, los puntos que siguen funcionando industrialmente deberán salir en un plazo máximo de dos años, se ha optado por pensar en la oportunidad de reformar éstos espacios, aprovechando que ya se han dado trabajos con fines similares, vincular Memoria, Industria, Paisaje y Territorio. Así la idea se enfocará en continuar conformando una red de proyectos que, aprovechando éstas estructuras tan significativas en la memoria y arquitectónicamente, puedan aportar a las necesidades del sector y a la falta de algunos equipamientos dentro de la zona, necesarios para mejorar la vida de sus ocupantes. De ésta manera el estudio se centrará en el análisis de los “Molinos Royal” elemento que encierra la teoría estudiada y que, desde su construcción, ha representado un hito dentro del sector. El vacío como promesa de lo nuevo en lo desocupado será uno de los principios centrales de aproximación a la propuesta, de ésta forma se irá trabajando a diferentes escalas aprovechando el impacto que podría tener el proyecto. “Se trata de abordar el problema que supone intervenir en una estructura formal que ha de cambiar inevitablemente, pero que, al tiempo, necesita expresarse como una permanencia.”
