Since 2001 there are two new methods to assess cardiovascular risk; ATP III (Adult Treatment Panel III) y SCORE (Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation). The ATPIII calculates the 10 years risk of coronary events (myocardial infarction) on an adaptation of Framingham equation. It uses categorical variables without need of an EKG. On the other hand, SCORE chart is based on several European studies and measures the absolute risk of cardiovascular mortality in the next 10 years. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the usefulness and compare the risk stratification obtained with both methods (ATPIII and SCORE) in a different population than those for which they were designed. Methods: A cross sectional study of 226 patients taken from the data base of a primary health center in rural Ecuador (HVO). Outcome variables were the risk level according to ATPIII and SCORE, and rates for lipid lowering treatment recommended according to European and ATPIII guidelines.
A partir del 2001 se desarrollaron dos nuevos métodos para la estimación del riesgo cardiovascular; ATP III (Adult Treatment Panel III) y SCORE (Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation). El ATPIII calcula el riesgo a 10 años de evento coronario (Infarto de miocardio) basado sobre adaptaciones de la ecuación de Framingham que usa variables categóricas y que elimina la necesidad del ECG. En cambio las tablas del SCORE esta basado en varios estudios de cohorte europeos, que al contrario del ATP III éste calcula el riesgo absoluto de mortalidad cardiovascular en 10 años. Objetivo Evaluar la utilidad y concordancia del ATPIII y SCORE, para el cálculo del riesgo cardiovascular, aplicados en una población diferente a la de su origen.
