Talking about architecture matters, there has always exit a tangible and intangible part not just the materialized one. Architecture is palpable trough time and trough the users who inhabit it giving a purpose or sense to the material. An outstanding example is the monastery and church San Francisco located in Quito which basically has the same time built as the city. This building has been in all the stages of the city, historical, revolutions, political changes and so on. It is obvious that San Francisco would have the same value if it significant (material) would have been built recently. The historical centers of the Latin Americans cities are well known for the humongous number of activities that happen in it. In Quito one of those frequently done activities is to visit the museums that show invaluable pieces of history. These buildings are disconnected and have a pour relationship among them. Nowadays there is a special condition coming to the center of Quito, which is the creation of the subway transportation system. It will be the most modern element in one of the oldest place of the city. This contrast is the one that give opportunities to the architects to improve the way that the center is shown. The project will help to understand the physical and intangible facts of the center of Quito.
En el campo de la arquitectura desde siempre ha existido en las edificaciones una parte tangible y una intangible, no simplemente lo material y el espacio. Sino también a través del tiempo ha existido el colectivo, quien es el que habita la arquitectura y le ha dado sentido a través del tiempo a lo material. Un claro ejemplo de esto es el convento iglesia San Francisco el cual se podría decir que tiene la antigüedad de la ciudad de Quito, ha estado en todos sus momentos históricos, de cambio , de revolución, entre otros. Es claro que este no tendría el mismo significado si su significante (materia) hubiese sido construido recientemente. El centro histórico también es caracterizado por la gran diversidad de actividades que contiene. Entre ellas están el visitar los museos los cuales tienen una característica primordial la cual es exhibir piezas valiosas dentro de un significante con histórica propia que de por si adquiere significado. Sin embargo estos Museos se encuentran desconectados entre sí. Ahora se da una situación especial en el centro histórico de Quito, la cual es la introducción del Metro, será el elemento más moderno dentro del centro histórico de gran impacto. Es por esto que propongo un centro de interpretación de centros histórico el cual regulara el actuar de los museos de forma macro. y además el centro histórico será el laboratorio de este instituto el cual tendrá un programa dedicado al desarrollo de la zona.
