Terapia de los sentidos como tratamiento de la agitación en pacientes con la enfermedad de alzheimer.

Description: Elderly population in Ecuador and Latin America is growing, so common diseases related to this age, such as Alzheimer’s disease are becoming more relevant and more of a social concern. In addition, the pharmacological symptomatic treatment of agitation is not satisfactory. This study suggests a treatment called "therapy of the senses" that combines techniques of Musictherapy and clinical neuropsychology (mainly verbal-sensorial integration and sensory stimulation), which seeks to reduce symptoms of agitation in patients with Alzheimer’s disease). The psychometric tool used to measure the agitation levels was the “Cohen-Mansfield agitation inventory". The research design is experimental and longitudinal, where the treatment was only given to the experimental group (N = 5), but not to the control group (n = 11). The measures were collected before and after the intervention in both groups.
