Paseo y Plaza Cultural, reestructuración e integración de la Plaza de Toros Quito Lenguaje de Patrones: interrelaciones entre arquitectura y evento.

Starting with the hypothesis that the public open spaces and the notion of belonging in Quito have begun to disappear, this thesis project plans a complete restructuring and integration of Quito's Bullring accompanied by a walking path. This building is a symbol and a point of reference in the city, but it's now walled, underused and isolated from its surrounding context. Additionally, the linear park called Isla Tortuga, located in the vicinity of the Bullring, has a complete disconnection of a strong finish, as well as having a confusing way of circulating through it. Therefore, the project seeks to order the aforementioned linear park, making it finish in the Bullring and reusing the interstitial space of this building to place a museum or art gallery, and a gastronomic perimeter, as well as a flexible use of shows inside the preexisting ring and stands. The project will be based on Christopher Alexander's Pattern Language theory, for it will serve as a design strategy. This theoretical perspective suggests that the architecture and the city can be shaped by spatial and event patterns that establish a complex language which gives guidelines on how to organize the architectural elements and their relationships.
A partir de la hipótesis de que en Quito han empezado a desaparecer los espacios públicos abiertos y la noción de pertenencia, el proyecto de fin de carrera plantea como tema la reestructuración e integración de la Plaza de Toros acompañada de un paseo, puesto a que dicho edificio es un elemento simbólico y referencial en la ciudad pero que se encuentra amurallado, subutilizado y aislado de su contexto. Adicionalmente, el parque lineal Isla Tortuga, que se halla en las inmediaciones de la Plaza de Toros, posee una completa desconexión de un remate fuerte, además de tener una confusa circulación. Es de este modo que el proyecto busca ordenar el ya mencionado parque lineal, dándole un remate en la Plaza de Toros y reutilizando el intersticio de dicho edificio para albergar tanto un museo taurino y galería de arte como un perímetro gastronómico y un programa flexible de espectáculos en su ruedo y graderío. El proyecto se sustentará en la teoría del Lenguaje de Patrones de Christopher Alexander, que servirá como estrategia de diseño. Este punto de vista teórico plantea que la arquitectura y la ciudad se pueden conformar en base a patrones espaciales y de acontecimiento que establezcan un lenguaje complejo que da las pautas de cómo organizar los elementos arquitectónicos y sus relaciones.
