Existing buildings that do not maintain a use or have been forgotten in the city are fundamental to recover, much more if these have historical and architectural value. The main study is based on analyzing different mechanisms to link existing architectural pieces with a new (Duality). On the one hand this will help reveal the complex nature of the architectural design, morphology, urban, plot and function. On the other hand the importance of two parts linked or integrated as a single element. From this analysis it will lead to determining a specific type of intervention that is appropriate to the project. To find this relationship of two old-new elements opted for an existing building as the School of Arts at San Roque, one of the first historicist buildings in the city of Quito has been abandoned for many years and a new building as proposed. After selection of building is made analysis of starting point, in which the specific architectural principle is born as the “Intervention exclusion” which may be the most appropriate and feasible to achieve a relationship between the two elements is made. This exclusion ratio implies the absence of common ground between the element A and B are two disjoint sets in topological terms. This principle allows the old building is retained and the new is another element in the set. The most immediate relationship between these two elements existing one and one-ups is to use a specific connector. It is then to define a new piece that allows joining A and B but these units do not have any direct contact. If done in a proper way this will develop a more articulated and legible system between these architectural pieces.
Las edificaciones existentes que no mantienen un uso o han sido olvidadas en la ciudad son fundamentales para recuperarlas, mucho más si estas tienen un valor histórico y arquitectónico. El principal estudio se basa en analizar diferentes mecanismos para relacionar piezas arquitectónicas existentes con una nueva (Dualidad). Por un lado esto ayudará a revela el carácter complejo del proyecto arquitectónico tanto de su morfología, urbano, parcela y función. Por otro lado la importancia de relacionarse o integrarse dos partes como un solo elemento. A partir de este análisis esto conllevará a determinar un tipo de intervención específico que sea idóneo para el desarrollo del proyecto. Para buscar esta relación de dos elementos antiguo-nuevo se optó por un edificio existente como es la Escuela de Artes en San Roque, una de las primeras construcciones historicistas de la ciudad de Quito que ha sido abandonada por muchos años y un nuevo edifico como propuesta. Posterior a la selección del edificio se hace un análisis de partido, en el cual nace el principio arquitectónico específico como es la “Intervención por exclusión” la cual puede ser la más adecuada y factible para lograr una relación entre los dos elementos. Esta relación de exclusión supone la inexistencia de puntos en común entre el elemento A y B: son dos conjuntos disjuntos en términos topológicos. Tal principio permite que el edificio antiguo se conserve y el nuevo sea otro elemento en el conjunto. La relación más inmediata entre estos dos elementos, uno existente y el otro de nueva creación consiste en utilizar algún conector específico. Se trata entonces de definir una nueva pieza que permita unir A y B aunque estas unidades no tengan contacto directo alguno. De realizarse de una manera adecuada esto permitirá desarrollar un sistema más articulado y legible entre estas piezas arquitectónicas.
