La educaci?n como un don suele normalizar las discriminaciones, las desigualdades, el exismo, el machismo y la homofobia. Las famosas frases: no soy bueno para las matem?ticas, no nac? para el arte, etc. dan a entender que existen dones que fueron entregados a cada uno de nosotros y de lo que se trata es de reconocer cu?l son las capacidades que tenemos para lograr desarrollarlas. No es lo mismo comprender la educaci?n como un don y la educaci?n como un derecho. El don es selectivo. Incluso no es raro que muchos neoliberales consideren que la educaci?n superior no es para todos y todas. La educaci?n superior debe ser para quienes tienen la capacidad de llegar a ella y sobre todo de pagar por ella. Por el contrario, la educaci?n como un derecho es universal. Ha nadie se le puede negar el derecho de acceder a la educaci?n superior y para que esto ocurre es indispensable que la educaci?n superior sea gratuita.
Education as a gift often normalizes discrimination, inequalities, sexism, machismo and homophobia. The famous phrases: I am not good at mathematics, I was not born for art, etc. imply that there are gifts that were given to each of us and what it is about is to recognize what are the capabilities we have to develop them. It is not the same to understand education as a gift and education as a right. The gift is selective. It is not even uncommon for many neoliberals to consider that higher education is not for everyone. Higher education should be for those who have the capacity to reach it and above all to pay for it. On the contrary, education as a right is universal. There is no one being denied the right to access higher education and for this to happen it is essential that higher education be free.
