Participatory planning in territory management: the case of Malchinguí in Ecuador

The purpose of this research is to describe the evolution and state of the participatory planning process carried out by the inhabitants of Malchinguí in Ecuador for the management of their territory in recent years. Based on a pragmatic research paradigm and with an inductive method, a descriptive and cross-sectional study is carried out that, based on the observation and description of the particular situation of the participatory planning process of the territory in Malchinguí, reflects on the importance of these processes in general in rural parishes of Ecuador. The main result of this research is the confirmation that the evolution of the participatory nature of the planning processes of the territory in Malchinguí has determined a better selection of projects to include in their development plans and land use, a greater commitment of its citizens with their own development and adequate and better prioritization in the execution of territorial development plans and their corresponding projects. El propósito de esta investigación es describir la evolución y estado del proceso participativo de planificación llevado a cabo por los habitantes de Malchinguí en Ecuador para la gestión de su territorio en los últimos años. A partir de un paradigma investigativo pragmático y con un método inductivo se realiza un estudio de corte descriptivo y transversal que a partir de la observación y descripción de la situación particular del proceso de planificación participativa del territorio en Malchinguí reflexiona sobre la importancia de estos procesos en general en las parroquias rurales de Ecuador. El principal resultado de esta investigación es la confirmación de que la evolución del carácter participativo de los procesos de planificación del territorio en Malchinguí ha determinado una mejor selección de proyectos a incluir en sus planes de desarrollo y ordenamiento territorial, un mayor compromiso de su ciudadanía con su propio desarrollo y una adecuada y mejor priorización en la ejecución de los planes de desarrollo territorial y sus correspondientes proyectos.
