La intención de esta investigación es evaluar la posibilidad de una resignificación, apreciación y valoración del arte popular quiteño, desde la visión de los artistas académicos dentro del campo del arte culto, para emitir un criterio que pueda servir de punto de partida para reflexiones específicas en el tema, y propiciar su resignificación cultural. Procurando definir su posición simbólica en relación a diferentes construcciones de pensamiento sobre la temática, poniendo en evidencia enfoques críticos que actualicen su condición discriminatoria desde la visión ilustrada, así como también el análisis de su estética, su consumo y su legitimación, que a su vez permitirá despejar varias interrogantes del dialogo que se producen entre las representaciones de arte popular y arte culto en Quito.
The purpose of this research is to evaluate the possibility of a redefinition, appreciation and evaluation of folk art in Quito, from the perspective of academic artists in the field of high art, to make a judgment as a starting point for specific reflections on the subject and promote its cultural redefinition. Trying to define its position in relation to different symbolic thoughts constructions on the subject, highlighting critical approaches to update its discriminatory status from the enlightenment vision, as well as analysis of its aesthetics, its consumption and its legitimacy, which at the same time will allow to clear several questions of dialogue taking place in folk art and high arte representations in Quito.
