One of the most innovative methods to create chords on the guitar has been proposed by the guitarist Lage Lund, a key figure in the modern jazz scene. His concept is to use the harmonic resources that we already possess as a starting point and through their manipulation arrive at new sounds that can extend our vocabulary. This investigation is focused on performance and the aim is to identify and apply new harmonic resources to the guitar in order to enrich both melodies and accompaniment. To achieve this Lage Lund´s method will be analyzed with the aim of developing a guide on to how to use the different voicings in distinct harmonic contexts. Firstly, biographical information will be presented relating to Lage Lund and his importance in the jazz world. Secondly a theoretical framework will be created based on the concepts of Lage Lund with the aim of developing a systematic method for arriving at all the different possible voicings. Through this analysis various harmonic resources will be developed and applied to the arrangements and interpretation of the jazz standards “Nardis” and “There Will Never Be Another You”, which will be performed in the final recital. A detailed guide will be created to permit the understanding of the different uses of the chords proposed by this method and how these harmonic concepts can be used to create a personal compositional and interpretive language. The final product will comprise both a written work and a recital.
Uno de los métodos innovadores para formar acordes en la guitarra es creado por Lage Lund, un ícono representativo de la escena del jazz moderno. Su propuesta es utilizar los diferentes recursos armónicos ya establecidos (información documentada acerca de la armonía y los acordes) como punto de partida, y a través de su manipulación llegar a desarrollar nuevas herramientas y sonoridades que permitan extender el vocabulario armónico. La línea de investigación es performance y el objetivo es identificar y aplicar nuevos recursos armónicos en la guitarra con el fin de enriquecer tanto las melodías como el acompañamiento. Por ello, se analizará el concepto armónico de Lund y su método, como base para establecer una guía de voicings funcionales en distintos contextos armónicos. Primeramente, se recopilará información de datos biográficos y se identificarán los parámetros que determinen la relevancia en la escena del jazz del sujeto de estudio. En segundo lugar, se realizará un marco referencial del concepto armónico de Lage Lund con el objetivo de crear un método sistemático para llegar a los diferentes voicings propuestos. Tras analizar cómo se manejan estas nuevas sonoridades, se procederá a implementar estos recursos armónicos en la elaboración de arreglos de los standards de jazz: “Nardis” y “Chan’s Song (Never Said)”, los cuáles serán presentados a través de un performance en un recital final. Este trabajo brindará una guía detallada que permita la comprensión de los diferentes usos de los acordes propuestos en este método y como estos conceptos armónicos pueden usarse para crear un lenguaje compositivo e interpretativo personal. El producto final comprenderá un trabajo escrito y un recital final.
