The goal of this investigation is to design the collection and representation of spatial information for a better management of the SAPP Drinking Water System (Water System Patamarca, Ecuador). It is to be shown that crucial information regarding the network of water distribution for that system can be organized through spatial criteria, and consequently allow for all service providers a better view of the various critical components that conform the system. Furthermore, this spatial view provides for quick data analysis regarding a specific area, for locating appropriate areas of water supply by analysing alternatives using spatial parameters, and finally optimizing resources in a timely manner. An adequate design of GIS (Geographic Information System) is aimed finally to support a visual representation of the infrastructure involved in the SAPP, with processes configured to maintain, generate and access information, hosted in a spatial database. Retrieving information works through standard SQL queries, and future planning activities can rely on sound systemic and integrated GIS analysis.
La meta de este proyecto de tesis es recolectar y representar mediante un Sistema de Información Geográfica, los diferentes elementos que componen la Red de distribución de Agua Potable del SAPP (Sistema de Agua Potable Patamarca.) de manera que permita ubicar cada componente perteneciente a dicha red de manera visual. Este logro conlleva ventajas para los usuarios de cada sector así como para los prestadores del servicio (SAPP), puesto que permite manejar información importante, la misma que mediante su análisis pretende ubicar rápidamente los problemas y analizar alternativas de solución minimizando el periodo de tiempo El uso de tecnologías de información como el SIG (Sistema de Información Geográfica), o su sigla en inglés GIS (Geographic Information System), permite representar la realidad de manera visual, ayudar a mantener, generar y usar información mediante bases de datos y consultas SQL, para planificar y lograr un análisis temporal de las situaciones futuras.
