Around the globe there are 15 countries that allow marriage between same sex couples. This seems to be the only struggle that the LGBTI community is carrying out, however, it is not the only one. Nowadays, society is facing a transition process, and there is a question in everyone’s minds: should same sex couples be allowed to get married or not? Here in Ecuador the opinions are split. Many people say yes, many others say no. The following work is meant to open the spectrum a bit more, since it is necessary to understand, that, neither sexuality, nor relationships are limited to a marital form. In Ecuador, since the year 2013, some activists started the campaign Matrimonio Civil Igualitario: Los mismos derechos, con los mismos nombres. The main target from this campaign is that same sex couples have the same legal recognition as heterosexual couples. It may seem that such a struggle is necessary in this country because we still live in a homophobic society, However there is a big risk behind this campaign: Marriage can become the new normativity inside the LGBTI community. If that happens there is no way we can talk about a more inclusive society. We would rather see a society that is constantly searching for new minorities to segregate. This conflict leads to one single question: Is marriage the solution to the problems that the community faces?
Ya son 15 países que actualmente permiten el matrimonio civil igualitario. Si bien esta lucha de los colectivos GLBTI es la más conocida, no es la única. La sociedad contemporánea se encuentra en un proceso de transición y hay una pregunta constante: ¿Debería permitirse que las parejas del mismo sexo contraigan matrimonio? Las opiniones están divididas en el país, muchos dicen sí y muchos otros dicen no. El siguiente trabajo pretende abrir un poco más el espectro, pues es necesario entender que la sexualidad y las relaciones no se limitan a una forma matrimonial. En el Ecuador, desde el año 2013, se impulsó la campaña Matrimonio Civil Igualitario: Los mismos derechos, con los mismos nombres. Campaña que busca que las uniones de parejas homosexuales sean reconocidas bajo la institución del matrimonio. A pesar de que en el país esta lucha parece ser necesaria, pues estamos frente a una sociedad todavía bastante homofóbica, hay un riesgo grande: El matrimonio puede convertirse en la nueva normativa dentro del colectivo GLBTI. Si esto sucede no se puede hablar de una sociedad más inclusiva, sino de una sociedad que está, constantemente, buscando nuevos grupos a los cuales segregar. Esto lleva a una pregunta ¿es el matrimonio la solución de los problemas de las diversidades sexo-genéricas?
