The flower sector in Ecuador represents a big part of the total not traditional exports. This part of the Ecuadorian economy is very dynamic and manages itself in a different way that other economic sectors. Since the beginning, plantations and companies related to the flower sector have been recognized for their profitability but at the same for being a risky business because as much as new plantations are created, others disappear for different reasons including bankrupting. The objective of this study is to establish if the creation of flower related companies continues to be as profitably as before, having in mind all the economic and politic facts that have affected Ecuador and the whole world. We try to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the flower sector in Ecuador, analyze the competition and the different markets that the Ecuadorian flower heads to.
El sector florícola en el Ecuador representa una buena parte de las exportaciones no tradicionales del país. Este sector es muy dinámico y se maneja de manera muy diferente a otros sectores agrícolas del país. Desde sus inicios, las empresas del sector florícola han sido reconocidas por ser muy rentables pero también riesgosas pues así como se crean decenas de fincas cada año, otras más van desapareciendo por diferentes razones. El objetivo de este estudio es establecer si es que la creación de empresas dentro de este sector sigue teniendo una rentabilidad alta, tomando en cuenta los factores tanto económicos como políticos que han afectado al Ecuador y al mundo. Se busca determinar las fortalezas y debilidades del sector, analizar su competencia y los diferentes mercados a los que se dirige la flor ecuatoriana.
